PYC Committee Search
26th October 2009

The PYC is bringing a committee together to help the general running of the PYC project. The PYC Committee would meet on a regular basis and help with the general running of the PYC. The committe members can be as involved as they like - you don't have to give up lots of time, unless you want to. The committe would help organise events (coming up is the PYC birthday party & Christmas party). You could come along to events the promote the PYC, for example, during Enterprise week the PYC has a stand at Inspire and needs a couple of people to man the exhibit. There will be some creative marketing & advertising oppertunties to those who wanted them, and also the chance to get involved with developing the website.

There is a meeting at the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce on Monday 26th October - just pop along any time between 3.30 and 5pm. As always, juice and biscuits supplied!

Dragons Den - PYC Style
27th March 2009

Thanks to James McFarlane at Devonport High School for Boys, 10S had a morning of Dragons Den PYC Style. They had time to think of an idea for a product and time to plan their pitch which was done in front of the whole class. The ideas that were pitched at the end included socks with pockets, a miniature animals board game, a child’s play maze, a shoe with a changeable sole and, the winning team, a gaming chair. Everyone in the winning team won a Vue Cinema ticket and a PYC memory stick - so well done!

mrwaxer.co.uk

Recently the PYC and mrwaxer.co.uk teamed up and now have formed a life-long relationship. mrwaxer.co.uk is a great brand that is run by an 11-year old called James Anderson. He raises money for charity through making and selling candles (hence the name Mr Waxer), cards, stationary and bookmarks. So far James has raised £2000 for charities such as Macmillan Cancer Care, Oxfam, Water Aid, Shelterbox, RSPCA. Why not help support James with a donation, or even contact him and help at a fundraiser!

Christmas Party
Wednesday 17th & Thursday 18th December

Thank-you to the Plymouth Chamber for being the hosts of our Christmas parties. Becky and I were lucky enough to have two parties; one for PYC members and one for PYC supporters. Mince pies were kindly donated by the M&S Food Court at Crownhill Retail Park, so thanks!

It was a small members party, but that only meant we had more mince pies each! Also, it was surprising how many of the people who have helped PYC so far, all knew each other.

Launch
Saturday 6th December

The PYC launch was held at the B-Bar, and what a venue! The nibbles were so delicious, I could have taken them home for tea! So thanks to everyone who came, and sorry to those who could not make it. We projected our promotional video on the wall and was praised by almost everyone.

Also, thanks to the new members who have signed up the newsletter- look out for January's issue!

Inspire
Wednesday 19th November

We used the opportunity of the Inspire event to create an awareness of the Plymouth Young Chamber, and what an awareness we did create! We signed up almost 50 young members.

Everyone really enjoyed playing The Trade Game which was inspired by Kyle MacDonald, who traded one red paperclip for a house. He started with one red paperclip on July 12 2005 and 14 trades later, on July 12, 2006 he traded with the Town of Kipling Saskatchewan for a house located at 503 Main Street, Kipling, Saskatchewan, Canada.

We had some good trades through the day; people came back with a clock, a cup of coffee, a pen, a mug and even a laptop! The jar of sweets will be given to the winner at the launch!

We also had the support of Lee Spence on the day, which, at the age of 19, has started his own clothing company, C-3. He kindly printed t-shirts for Becky and I, personalised with out names on the back.

All in all, the day was a total success.
